Whilst on my final year studying at University, I met somebody that got me into weightlifting. Initially, I was reluctant to give it a go but I have found this immensely good for relieving stress and depression. It also helped a lot with motivation and promotes mental resilience. Furthermore, I have read online that exercise helps people get over the trauma of the past. Having a psychotic episode is definitely traumatic and takes a toll on the body in more ways than you might realize.
It is important to keep to a good exercise regimen and workout on a consistent basis. Eating right also helps a lot with this. I currently aim to work-out with weights at least three times a week. I do a circuit of exercises called a complex. I also use resistance bands to warm up. I had bought an exercise bike and punching bag and rowing machine before but ended up hardly using them. One of the benefits of weights and resistance bands is that they are far more portable and they take up less storage. I currently have two kettlebells; two sets of resistance bands and two weights sets which I have been able to keep conveniently in my room.
